Diamond polishing – it all began in Bruges, more than 500 years ago.

Discover how diamond polishing was developed in Bruges by the goldsmith Lodewijk van Berquem, during the rich period of the dukes of Burgundy, long before Antwerp and Amsterdam.
Learn the noble art of diamond cutting : sawing, cleaving, setting and polishing.
Take the opportunity to discover the secrets of the diamond trade, often inacessible to the outsider.
At the end of the exhibition you will see some very beautiful diamonds : rough diamonds, pearl shaped diamonds, coloured diamonds, fancy cut diamonds, as well as a precious collection of old Flemish jewellery.

Daily demonstrations of diamond polishing at 12.15 p.m.(groups by appointment).

The museum is situated in a beautifully restored mansion not far from the Bequinage.
